Reason 3. These natural disasters are to be expected because they are the groans of creation warning man that even it needs to be freed from the effects of Adam’s sin before it destroys itself.

“The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the One who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”
Romans 8:19-22

Sin not only ‘broke’ God’s creation, man, but it also put the earth He created out of order. We have weather because the atmosphere’s temperature, pressure and thickness is out of balance. Before Adam’s fall, the earth was watered by dew. By the time of Noah things had broken down and the earth became watered by a new mechanism – a little thing called rain.

Earthquakes are a result when the unbalances pressures in the earth build up and are relieved by the movement and fracturing of huge slabs of the earths crusts. Volcanoes occur when the internal pressures of the mantle find a weakness in the earth’s crust and make their way to surface. Tornadoes and hurricanes are results of temperature and pressure shifts in the atmosphere over land and sea with a little kick from the earth’s rotation as a bonus.

Carefully examine the pattern here. Behind every natural disaster is an imbalance struggling to regain balance. Every time the planet earth tries to regain stability by its own effort – BOOM! It’s a disaster– volcano, earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, tornado, monsoon, flood. Natural disasters are perfect parables of what man can expect when he tries to regain righteousness by his own efforts apart from that of Jesus – BOOM!
