A Fresh Look at Forgiveness

We become tempted to stop at some 'administrative satisfaction', where genuine forgiveness is trapped in limbo. This phony forgiveness is not complete, because there's no attempt to restore relationships.

This reveals ugly truth about the flesh which resides in our bodies. Our flesh contains bitter ingredients of resentment or indifference, which it stirs in that 'simmering pot' corner of our former nature.

Fortunately for humanity, God's ways are not our ways, and His version of forgiveness is complete and healing.

Just how good is the forgiveness of God? It's so good that He is not only satisfied with the payment of sins by the blood of His Son, but He has restored us to a position of no longer being His enemy. It's a position we had in Adam before he sinned.

"For it pleased the Father that in Him [Jesus Christ] all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—"
