Getting the Best of Guilt by Grace

Why, the same way God designed all Christians to overcome these feelings of guilt:

  • Listen to the Holy Spirit, who lives within you by the resurrected power of Jesus.
  • Let Him remind you of the cross where Jesus paid the price in full.
  • Now get up and thank God for His forgiveness and walk by faith in His Son.

We all fail. We all struggle. We all choose the flesh over the Sprit even though we are born again. Contrary to public opinion, this is not new! “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:24-25). The temptation of the flesh is to give into self-pity or self-loathing, anything but turn to God and say: “Thank you Father for Your love and grace, Your forgiveness and Your Son. Thank you Jesus for dying for me, becoming sin for me and giving me your eternal life.”

Brother or sister, the next time you struggle with your heart or conscience, remember the cross and what it did for you as an unworthy enemy of God - it brought you peace with God through the death of His Son.

Take this peace and joy to the people you’ve offended or have offended you. Make restitution, apologize - get creative with the Holy Spirit. You have already received forgiveness from God. You're now free to forgive and deal with the people or institutions you’ve wronged or have wronged you. Take courage in your Savior, not yourself. Pray, meditate – talk to the Lord about the truth of this passage:
