Part 6: The Crowning Jewel Conclusion to Our Identity in Christ

Children of God Possess the Very Life of Jesus Christ

One year ago last Easter, this series of articles on the Christian's identity in Christ began with a look at the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's only fitting to conclude it with an examination of the power and the glory of His indestructible life as we approach Easter in 2006.

A careful look at the Old Testament provides clues that God's will all along was to give humanity life. This life is special, because it's an eternal life, which was of a quality of life man did not, and could not possess on his own. In the Garden of Eden, Adam's sin was to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, rather than the tree of life (Genesis 2-3).

Even after God had given Moses and the children of Israel the Law (with its blessings and curses), He revealed that the Law lacked one thing - the ability to give a person life. Why? Because He Himself was to be their life; the Law was never intended to give life:

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and He will give you many years in the land He swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."
