The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts. But, do you want to know something? When I went back this year, I found out that I hadn't been invited.

I thought the party was for me, but when I got there, they left me outside. I knocked on the door and someone even closed the door in my face......... I really wanted to be with them again this year.

I really should't be so surprised anymore. In the last few years, a lot of folks have been closing their doors to me.

I thought, I'd give it one last try and quietly walked in through the back door. I thought surely, I could find my old friend, and he would welcome me. I went in and there was no room anywhere for me , except to stand in a small and lonely corner.

There was a lot of drinking and the sounds were deafening. There were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a great time. To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying : "Santa, Santa, Santa"... as if the party was all about him! (See, I told you he was an immigrant; our ways seem pretty strange to him. - Bud)

At midnight everyone began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and .... and do you know .... nobody hugged me ... everyone just ignored me.

Suddenly it was time to exchange gifts. With great expectation, everyone opened them one by one. When it was all over, I looked to see if, maybe, just maybe there was one for me. Nothing, not even a lump of coal to put into the fireplace.

How would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you didn't even get one? Every year, it just gets worse. People only remember the eating, the drinking, the gifts, the parties and nobody remembers me.
