Getting the Best of Guilt by Grace

We must be reminded of a neglected fact - God has forgotten our sins because Jesus has paid for them through His death on the cross. God’s forgiveness is more than pardon, accepting Jesus’ death as your death; His forgiveness has restored usto a position of no longer being God’s enemies.

The cross prepared you and me for our most important decision on earth. The decision to listen and respond to the Holy Spirit tell us: “Jesus loves YOU. You can trust Jesus to save you. You need Jesus to save you. Will you trust Him to save you?” The moment we believed, we were saved, born again by His resurrected life (Rom 5:10). We received eternal life. A life which never ends and can never be taken away. It’s the very life of Jesus Himself (John 14:6; John 11:25).

What we have to do when we sin, is remember that we never were worthy, only Jesus is worthy. We have never been called to be worthy; but we have been called to “walk worthy” (Eph 4:1; Col 1:10; 1 Thess 2:12). This means to walk by faith in Him just as you were saved through faith in Him (Col 2:6).

In other words, live as who you are in Christ – a child of the living God. As one Bible teacher has put it “Worthy is the Lamb, not the sheep.” We are the redeemed, not the redeemer. By ourselves we are never faithful, only Jesus is faithful. We are only faithful when we are walking in the Spirit through faith in Jesus just as we were saved by grace through faith in Jesus.

I think, that every day of Paul’s life as a Christian, Satan beat him unmercifully with the memories of the people he put in prison and led to their deaths before he came to Christ. Peter had to endure being rebuked in front of Jewish and Gentile leaders by Paul after he was saved when he was an apostle, hand picked by Jesus Christ! Timothy needed constant encouragement by Paul to fulfill the work the Lord had given him to do. How did these 'giants of the faith' handle it?
