Propitiation, Reconciliation and Forgiveness

Doubt means that we’ll go on to live lives believing we still owe God a debt for our sins, even though Jesus has paid for them. We will live lives thinking we are enemies of God without a hope of peace. We’ll live lives trying to earn our way to God’s acceptance or give up trying altogether. In short, we’ll live our lives as if Jesus never died for us.

Because we are reconciled to God and He is satisfied with His Son’s payment for our sins, we are forgiven: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7 NKJV). Furthermore, He has forgotten our sins, never to bring them up again: “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” (Hebrews 8:12 NIV).

When we believe these Bible truths, we grow strong in the grace of God through Jesus Christ. Instead of living lives with condemned consciences, we live with clean ones: “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to deathay serve the living God!” (Hebrews 9:14). Rejoice! Share the good news of reconciliation and the hope for a clean conscience with someone.

I encourage all of you to meditate on what it means for the sacrifice of Jesus to satisfy God as payment for our sins. I believe a better understanding and teaching of this $5 word 'propitiation' could lead to a radical breakthrough in overcoming people's objections to the gospel. Too many people believe they are so deep in debt to God for their sins that there is no way out. You and I carry the Good News that Jesus has made a way out and He is that Way, just as He is also the Truth and the Life.

Again, I have to apologize for neglecting my nook here at GraceHead. Pray for me that I will be more diligent in the future and that I'm more sensitive to the Spirit.
