... Natural Disasters are NOT the Judgment of God

Reason 2. The wrath of God (the Great Tribulation) is not upon the world because the body of Christ (His church) cannot be upon the earth at that time. The Great Tribulation is not punishment for sin [see point 1] it is the final testimony to the world for it to accept Jesus. (God’s wrath is it is the consequence for those rejecting the gospel before this day begins.)

“For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:8-10

Romans 8 and 9 tells us that God’s wrath is being stored up for those who reject the testimony of the Holy Spirit and refuse to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior (John 16:9). The Great Tribulation of Daniel and Revelation is truly God’s wrath on a world which has rejected His Son (Revelation 8 – 11). The period can’t begin until His church is removed. Why? Because we are NOT appointed to suffer His wrath; those who’ve rejected Christ are appointed to suffer His wrath. Yet even during this period of time people will still come to Christ even at the very risk of their lives.

God now waits to release His wrath on the world. But because the church (everyone who is a born-again child of God) is still here it cannot take place. It is still time to proclaim the gospel, serving God as one of His children who also just happens to be one of His ambassadors of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:19-21). Hmm … now where have I heard that r-word before?

Indwelling the children of God, the Holy Spirit is the restraining power which makes us the ambassadors who are salt and light (Matthew 5:13-18) sent to the lost. It’s the Spirit’s work through the body of Christ which keeps the lost of the world from devouring all of humanity (2Thessalonians 2:7). You and I are to encourage each other that as bad as things may get, it is not God’s wrath on us.

The flesh loves to make excuses for rejecting the grace of God. It whines to God saying things like “If only you gave me Plan X instead of Plan Y, I would have obeyed you.” Well God gave man several options to give humanity a self-righteous shot at salvation:

• Adam – perfect parent, perfect wife, perfect place, one law, no sin – FAILURE!
• Moses – detailed list of do’s and don’ts, priests, sacrifices – FAILURE!
• Add prophets of God to warn the people – FAILURE!
• Add judges of Israel to advise the people – FAILURE!
• Add kings of Israel to lead & protect the people – FAILURE!
• Replace the portable tabernacle with a splendid temple – FAILURE!

Abram’s belief in God’s promise of a seed (Genesis 15) did more than change his name to Abraham. It was more than a promise of a son Isaac through his wife Sarai. It was a promise of the single “seed” who would bring righteousness to man by faith: “But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe” (Galatians 3:22).

In rejecting the promise fulfilled in Jesus, there is only one testimony remaining and that is the Great Tribulation. It is this final period of time where the Holy Spirit’s work through the church comes to an end and the world get’s its last wish – a world run by humanity without God’s direction. It is this final period where God’s wrath is released with the trumpets and bowls of the angels making the final appeal to humanity to turn from their sin of unbelief (John 16:9) and accept the Lamb of God (John 1:29; Revelation 5).
