How Can I Change God?

by Trent - originally posted August 15, 2005

I went to San Antonio for a business trip. On the way there, I got 3 miles less per gallon of gas.
What was hindering me going to San Antonio, and helping me as I left there? It was The wind in my face one way and at my back on the way back home .. so the difference was not that the wind changed, but that MY direction changed.

It is written that God gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. So if God resists us and we want His grace instead, what can we do to change Him?

Well, hopefully I've made the point that He remains the same like the wind that resisted me in one direction and pushed me in the other direction ...

My experience CAN change with God .. as I humble myself. However, God is always the same, yesterday and forever ... He will always resist the proud and bless the humble ...

I want to change from arrogant to humble.

Did you know that I have to humble MYSELF? Nobody can do it for me. God refuses to do it. He might bring me low as a catalyst, but ultimately I must respond and humble myself.

It is nice to know that even if we all wake tomorrow and water runs uphill God is still God.

Our first step when we accept Jesus is an act of humbleness. I think the issue comes in later when we have schooled ourselves that we start wanting to be special if you will.

Somehow us greater in God then another when the reality is when God sets one apart from the rest it needs no self proclamation, like the wind it blows the way it blows pushing or slowing down all of which we can not see.

It is I think the acts of humbleness that no one else sees
Like having listening to the same story over and over from one who always forgets they already told you. These are the things I think and I could be wrong that God enjoys not the self elevation of public acts that cause one to say "that man is so humble".

There are places for that but I think they are not near the amount of places as there is for the other. The quiet humble submission to God of which there is no hugs from man telling you how great you are.

I also know you do many of these quiet and often lonely types of acts of humbleness and our Father sees each and every heartbeat He has chiseled that allows them.

The article was good and the comment by Mrs. Zeke made it even better.

True humility is hard simply by its own nature. We fail at it when we still live for the acceptance and praise of one another rather than the praise of God. How many of us get caught up in the prideful trap of needing to appear perfect and convincing ourselves that it is our testimony, something we are doing for God?

Pam I would suggest the very issue you have brought up about appearing perfect is the reason the church in America is in such a downward spiral.

I almost wish we would all wear signs that displayed our sins to church or wherever we meet not to throw stones at one another but to show all God has done. It is hard to be haughty when it is out there for everyone to see.

But it would not work because sure as I type there will be some that would use others displayed sins to elevate themselves and the cycle starts over again.

Be well Pam and be loved

Mrs. Zeke,

Boy! Is that a can of worms!

It is behavior that I am sick to the bone over. There are certain situations that just remembering them makes me emotionally crumple up like a ball. It is bad enough that we all can be prone to doing this but the way men in ministry use this sin in people to further their own means is the worst...

Pam it is awful. God is the only forgiver and judgment of man. No matter how awful we might see someone or ourselves. To use anything God has forgiven against a brother and sister is directly in conflict of how the Bible says we are to treat each other.

That is not always easy but it is the reality. I would if I could walk into church with all my forgiven sins (if I could fit ) if it meant to one they could see the mercy and glory of God. But spiteful minds and spiteful mouths would prevent that.

Because of that in my belief true intimate relationships I believe God wants us to have with one another is almost impossible.
*sigh* sometimes I can't wait for Heaven.

Mrs. Zeke,

I feel the same way. Human pride gets in the way of so many things that God wants to bless us with.

I think hard times are coming to America. Maybe that is what we need to help us have a more realistic view of God, ourselves, our need for Him, and one another. In the meantime, I think we have to do as Jesus tells us in His seven warnings to the church and hang on until He comes for us. No matter how artificial the organized church becomes, we can still make an impact there if we are humbling ourselves before God and gathering with other believers in obedience to Him. Nothing more than a spirit filled hug can go a long way in encouraging someone who is probably as hurt and discouraged as we are. In Christ, we just keep on keeping on!
