The Law Fulfilled By Love

There is no greater power, no greater force for good than Love. God is Love and as He is irresistible so is Love irresistible. It is by the power of Love that all of the commandments of God are upheld and fulfilled. When we Love God with all of our hearts and minds and those around us as ourselves, we are no longer subject to the Law for by Love, we become God's Law in flesh and blood.

Knowledge of the Bible and God via Biblical teaching is important but if that which is taught or that which we learn does not incite us to Love then that knowledge and teaching has become unsound. Any teaching that causes us to see ourselves as above any other and to regard some as outcaste are in violation of God's Law. When we fail to Love, we have broken every one of God's sacred commandments. God's Laws are the epitome of God's Love for His children; for all of God's Laws are for our good and not for our harm. If we were able to uphold those Laws, we would lead long and peaceful lives upon the earth but our nature is opposed to the Law and to the Love that is God. Yet, God Loves us despite ourselves and our natural tendency to oppose Love and failure to trust in He Who is Love.

It is Love that marks us a disciples of Jesus. That very Jesus Who is our faith. It is not Biblical knowledge or right doctrine that demonstrates to the world that Jesus is our Master but it is our love for one another that demonstrates that power which is Christ in us. It is Christ Jesus Who enters in to our hearts and minds through faith, that faith also being a gift of God, that changes our nature and that which causes us to live in opposition to Love, in opposition to God Himself. In Christ, we are made free from our sinful nature, which is sinful as it is contrary to God, and also made free from the Law as in Christ we become the Law lived out in Love and are no longer subject to it.

Yet, we still tend to return to our old ways, forgetting that we have been forgiven and wholly accepted by God in Love. We turn to knowledge and desire our own holiness so as to impress God rather than live in the power of God that is Love. That Love fully expressed in Christ Jesus as He died for us that we might be forgiven our opposition toward God our Heavenly Father. That very Jesus Who yet, also lives for us that we might live out our days in the power of Love as He lives His Life out in us and through us.

The faith that is Jesus Christ is not what one knows, or the holidays one keeps, or the number of meetings one attends, or the rules one lives by.(Though all Biblical knowledge, teaching, and obedience ought to bring us to the point of loving God and others more.) The faith that is Jesus Christ is a life lived in surrender to the power of God, a life lived in Love.

May God the Father make us all mindful to face every situation not in our own power or goodness but fully resting in the only power given us that we might uphold and fulfill the Laws of God, the power of Love Who is the God and Father of us all. Amen.

Amen and amen to that! :)

Like I Cor 13:13 says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." God's love is something that takes the power of God to understand...that's pretty amazing!

ALL of the laws of the Old Testament are fulfilled in love (Romans 13:9). As soon as we lose sight of that truth, we'll find ourselves striving to measure up to selected bits and pieces of the old code--and trying to make everyone else around us live up to it also. Thanks for sharing, Pam!

Thank you, Ambree for adding the Biblical support for that which I wrote. The scriptures are Love letters written to those who are called in Christ according to HIS purpose and as those precious Words of Love to us absorb our old nature and actually become Jesus living in us, Love becomes more easily understood and actualized through us.

The Love that is God is truly amazing and we are so blessed to have Grace available to us all that we might spend our entire lifetime learning about that Love!

I finally got it to go and that is a very good thread. After I had been a Christian for about 15 years, I became involved in a church that stressed separation and personal holiness above all else. (it is a long story as to why I fell victim to this) The rules and regs were endless and it too so much effort to keep them all that I soon lost all focus on Jesus and instead of sinning less, I found myself falling to sin more often because my mind was continually upon sin. Then God sent some hard things into my life that forced me to focus again on Him and I learned that with my mind on Jesus, my sin habits simply began to disappear. There is no hope for us to live a holy life upon our own effort. A holy life is only the Life that is Jesus living in us and given full reign.

I said in that thread trying to "KEEP the LAW" is like entering a ping pong tournament with satan and Hes been playng that game forever. We don't stand a chance.
I bet we can all hold our breath longer than we can "keep the law".
The law shouldn't be our focus we need to abide in selfless love otherwise we're cooked.

Love is the essence of the Law.
We keep it out of love for and from Christ. God wrote it and gave to keep us from pain and to keep us from causing others pain...sin leads to pain. But of the Commandments the first 4 are above the rest for a reason. They keep us close to God in honoring Him and keeping Him first; and by doing this the rest fall into place without much effort, for the Spirit will be working in us. This is why Jesus said in this the Law is fulfilled: "Love your God with all your heart, and all your mind, and all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself."
To love one another is the greatest command of all and by no means does it do away with the Holy Law, rather it upholds it in joy and peace.

Good Morning Timothy,

There is no way without Christ Jesus that I could love in such a way as to also live the commandments. In my natural state, I would not even seek out God, let alone love Him. The Father gave me to Jesus as the Holy Spirit worked through the events of my life to bring me to the point of repentance that I might bend the knee and proclaim Jesus as Lord. I love because He first loved me. The Love that is Jesus in me never runs contrary to God's Law for the Love that is Jesus has written those Laws in my heart that by my new nature in Christ they are naturally obeyed. I don't even have to think of them really all I do is submit to Jesus and His Love flows to the Father and to others through me. Though, I am still of mixed natures in this present life and when I vaunt myself or become overly concerned for myself, I too break the Law but I have Jesus. Through the mind of Christ in me, the Father chastens me and returns me to the state of full Grace and assures me that there is no reason to be fearful for myself or to worry about what others think of me or say about me. I don't need to defend myself or need for any other to defend me for nothing occurs in my life that is not a part of His divine plan. His work is finished from the foundation of the world and all that is left for me is to rest in the rest of His finished work. I am but an ambassador for Christ and my message is that of reconciliation of man to God through the shed blood of Jesus. My message is to all that all may rest in His finished work. Even if that work should include being stoned to death by those who have not yet experienced the revelation of Jesus Christ, there is but joy in that ultimate suffering for the cause of Christ that enables us to cry, "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do!" Even so, come Lord Jesus and the full revelation of Jesus Christ to all the world.

Let us hide ourselves in Him that we might endure the coming storm.

We as Christians are branches growing from the Vine and the Father shall surely prune all branches growing in Christ, the Lord, so we may bear more fruit and have life in more abundance.(John)
