Question: Are there and were there prophets after Jesus’ ascension?
Answer: God has never stopped sending prophets to His people and to the church. God does not change...”For I am the Lord, I change not. Therefore, ye sons of Jacob are not consumed” (Malachi 3:6).
In the New Testament, there were a few “true” prophets mentioned, also saying there would be prophets in the church. Jesus, Himself, said how we should receive prophets and how to discern between true and false prophets. (See “Discernment of True and False Prophets”). The Lord would not have taught us these things if there were no more true prophets to come. He, rather, would have said something like, “Trust not any prophet, for there are no more to come”.
But what ye went out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, behold, I send My messenger before thy face, which shall prepare the way before thee. (Matthew 11:9-10).
Likewise, is God sending His modern-day prophets before Christ’s return, to prepare the way before Him.
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity. (Luke 2:36)
As we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea, a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost (Spirit), So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that oweth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. (Acts 21:10-11)
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (1 Corinthians 12:28)
Despise not prophesyings. (1 Thessalonians 5:20)
He that receiveth you, receiveth Me, and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a Prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a Righteous Man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. (Matthew 10:40-41).
“Wherefore by their fruits, ye shall know them” (Matthew 7:20)...regarding true and false prophets.
The apostles, themselves, were prophets, having prophesied many times. They were given all the gifts of the Spirit at various times. He will not just send one, as was sent to the nation of Israel at Jesus’ first coming, but He will send 144,000 to announce Jesus’ coming to the world and to all those in His body, who wait anxiously for His appearing, who should be shouting from the rooftops! In addition to the 144,000, He is also sending two additional witnesses, or lampstands (Revelation 11:3-6).
The following is an excerpt from the Messianic prophecy Bible study, “Jesus...MORE Than a Man” on my website www.trumpetcallofgod.com. (*I strongly encourage all to read this Messianic prophecy Bible study and then ask yourselves how I put together over 200 OT Messianic prophecy verses with their matching NT fulfillment verses with NO schooling in the Bible, having never been to church, having never been told, nor taught these things by anyone, and the fact that I had not studied, nor completely read the Bible before I put it together...
It is the Lord's doing and to HIM be all the glory!)
OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECY:
The Forerunner Of The Coming Messiah Would Come In The Spirit And Power Of Elijah
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
[*Note: This verse has a double meaning. It refers to Jesus’ First Coming (Great), and His Return (Great and Dreadful). Its fulfillment will happen in three parts:
1. God sent John, the Baptist, in the spirit of Elijah before Jesus at His first coming.
2. Also will God send 144,000 witnesses (Revelation 7:4-8) in the spirit of Elijah before His Second Coming.
3. In addition, God will send [Elijah and Moses themselves]* who will be the two witnesses and lampstands in Revelation 11:3-6. *We know the two lampstands from Revelation are Elijah and Moses from Matthew 16:28-17:1-3, and by the miracles they perform in Revelation. These miracles are the same miracles they performed in the Old Testament.]
NEW TESTAMENT FULFILLMENT:
John, The Forerunner of Jesus Christ, Came In The Spirit And Power Of Elijah
Matthew 11:13-14 (13) For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. (14) And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Matthew 17:11-13 (11) And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. (12) But I say unto you, that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. (13) Then the disciples understood that He spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Luke 1:17 (17) And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
So then, am I a prophet of the Lord?...Yes, I hear His voice and write down His words and send them out to the people and the churches, to warn, exhort, correct, proclaim, encourage, announce, teach!...the blowing of the trumpet of God...also a separating of the wheat from the tares, and the chaff from the wheat, even unto a bundling of the wheat, and a sifting or trying of that wheat in preparation for the harvest. It shall be gathered and sheltered in the Master’s barn for one week in the Lord.
The wild wheat shall be left unto refinement and the tares who remain unrepentant shall be burned up. The wild wheat will become the refined wheat, and along with all “new” wheat shall they be a part of the second harvest **[martyrs (Revelation 6:9-11) and those taken through and then hidden for 3 1/2 years (Revelation 12:14), until the glorious appearing of our Lord].
**Note: The “Rapture” or “Gathering Up” starts with the first harvest and continues on through the Last Week (the second harvest), including all those who will be killed for their testimony.
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the Word of God, and for the testimony which they held. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, Oh Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them. And it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.(Revelation 6:9-11)
And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is
nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.(Revelation 12:14)
“God, who at sundry times and in diverse manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds” (Hebrews 1:1-2).
All that I do and speak is by Jesus. For apart from Him, I can do nothing (John 6:63).
If all things are done through Him, and by God’s Holy Spirit which is given through Christ, then it is by Christ’s authority and voice that I do now speak to you.
I do nothing of myself. All is the Lord’s doing, through Christ, in Christ and by Christ. Even the Word from God I write is still given to me through Christ...He is the “All in All” and lives in me, and it is His Spirit that comforts me and it is His voice that I hear and obey.
So then, most Christians understanding of Hebrews 1:1-2 is correct, but not complete. As these verses are continually fulfilled through me and all those who love Him; and also in the reading of His words in the Bible and the Letters...Jesus is the Word...”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
All inspired posts are also from Him... To God be all the glory and to the Lamb! Amen.
Note: I speak by permission of that same Spirit in Christ, when I say all prophets of the Lord spoke as they were moved by the Spirit of God, and that Spirit by which they spoke was Christ.
Yet the Spirit coming to live in us was not yet given to the church of Christ’s body, but was given to the prophets of the Old Testament at various times, to fulfill God’s will....”For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man. But holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21).
Question: Am I a teacher of prophecy as Hal Lindsey, or a prophet as in the Old Testament?
Answer: Both.
God, through Christ and the Spirit, has given me understanding...the “unsealing” of the books to teach prophecy.
God has also given me the gift of hearing His voice to write prophecy as those in the Old Testament.
Now is the culmination of all things...the “End of the Age” is here! The return of Christ is at hand!
So certain people, as God has chosen, who did not choose this for themselves by any means, will be given all the gifts of the Spirit so they can be all things to all people, according to God’s will and purpose. These are not to be envied in any way for they shall suffer many things for the Lord’s namesake, even that of great tribulation... not the Lord’s judgments, but tribulation in and of and by the world and the evil one, yet death will have no power over them, for they will be sealed in their foreheads with the name of God...”Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads” (Revelation 7:3).
I do not glorify myself in any way, but rather I have been made a servant of God, and even of all those who seek Him and turn to Him...all for the glory of God, to build up the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord, in the hope and purpose of the salvation of many....a great harvest for Him, who died for them and rose again, so those who ask may live with Him forever. Amen.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:3)
I want you to be where I am. (John 17:24)
Come Lord Jesus! Amen.
