"Is it correct to pray for my daughter's protection?"

I got this question 5 days ago in my inbox from a stranger:

Can I pray for protection to God. i.e. When my daughter leaves after visiting, I always pray to the Lord that He will send His angels to surround her car for safe journeys. Is this correct?

I was inspired by the Lord to write this stranger a long answer ...

I echo Pam's comment. I think it is harder to trust God for our nearest and dearest than it is for ourselves. And we get so hung up on what is "right"! Can you imagine biting your lip and not asking Him to take care of your child because you felt it was "wrong"? It is only as we get to know Him better, and learn to relax in his love, that we are able to trust Him with all that is precious to us.
