Daily-Hell 201 (Self Centered)

by Trent ... In continuation from Daily-Hell 102 ...

Not only are all humans born "insane" (unlike The Lord Jesus,) but another part of our daily-hell is caused by our self-centeredness.

The examples of self-centeredness are as ubiquitous as the desparation found in personal ads in the newspaper, and as integral to the human condition as the lyrics to love songs ...

Lyrics from "If I Give my Heart to You," by Jimmie Crane, Al Jacobs and Jimmy Brewster [1953, 1954]
Will you fill my emptiness
and drive away my loneliness?
Will you promise you will be true to me
and always treat me tenderly?
Will you sigh with me when I am sad,
and will you smile with me when I am glad?

Think it over and be sure, and please don't
answer until you do.
And when you promise all these things to me,
I'll give my heart to you.

Next time you attend a wedding, see if you don't hear the presiding minister say something like this:

Excerpt from common marriage vow:
"As the two of you truly join together as one,
each depending on the other,
you will feel no emptiness, no loneliness, no cold nor pain"

I know all too well this daily-hell, of waking up empty, and walking through life as a black-hole. We are like vampires, sucking life from each other ... or actually like ticks without a hound ... sucking blood from each other, where each of us haven't the blood to satisfy ourselves, much less anyone else.

Nothing physical can satisfy these spiritual needs, and in our self-centeredness we develop strategies to attempt to lay hold of these things through friends, families, spouses, and even strangers. No matter what they give us it is never enough. It is like trying to eat soup using a fork. There is a bunch of hard work going into eating, but the hunger remains.

Does Jesus merely save you from hell-in-the-future? Could there be a part of salvation that delivers humans from the daily-hell of self-centeredness?

John 4:13-15 (New International Version)
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."

Mornin' Trent,

Self centeredness truly is hell and those who are pathologically so make hell on earth for all around them. To be so is to be a black hole that sucks in all that comes near it but is never filled.

The only cure is to become Christ centered and Jesus is working on that for me!

When my husband and I were first married, we each had of the other so much expectation in filling our needs and all we tended to focus on was our own need, focus on and fight about...

How much better our relationship became when we began to focus on Jesus to fill each of our needs and to also focus upon the need of the other.

Pam,
I know what you mean. Milking life from a spouse is a futile venture. Finding life in Jesus, and overflowing to your spouse is just right ... it feels right ... like nothing could be better, and we were all meant to do just that!

Ya know, I really don't know if it is just (mostly) the four of us reading and making comments here on gracehead.com, ... but I want to say that I am almost always blest and edified when I stop by to read. It's a ministry I hope spreads to more people on the Net. Good job Trent, Pam, Lisa. This place is a "little pearl" in the vast ocean of 'The Web-Net.' ... draw in the net ! ... to be honest: I think very likely WE'RE ALREADY in the final harvest !

Not only THAT. ... the SPEED OF TIME is about double or triple what it used to be some 10 or 20 years ago. Anyone feel the same way?

Did you notice? ... we're RUNNING toward THE OMEGA.

Hey y'all...thankfully you folks aren't the only ones being blessed by this great site. :) I'm being blessed too! :)

This site helps stimulate my mind in a good way & gives me encouragement that I'm not the only one involved in this daily hell. I struggle daily with faithless thinking, and that's actually a blessing since it reminds me how much more I need Jesus. At times I just want to give up, not type anything anymore and just shut the freakin' computer off...but then, the Lord catches my attention through a post here, or a song I hear on the radio or a message I hear @ church, and then my thinking gets back on track and I start thanking Him for his ultimate and unfailing goodness and love towards this sometimey sista. :)

Keep up the good fight and stay thankful...

Ambree,
We sure need Him ... and thus we need to see Him in each other.
Thanks for letting Jesus come out and play, Ambree!

What wonderful encouragement from everyone! That truly is one of the gifts of the Body to the Body. I honestly think that is why we are to fellowship, online or otherwise, to help build one another up.

Trent, I totally amen the self-centeredness=daily hell. I like Pam's comment--it's like a black hole sucking the life out of everything around it. How true! I'd never thought of it that way, but I LOVE the analogy--might borrow it from you sometime Pam, if you don't mind ;)

When I get over worked and over tired, etc, I tend to start getting a bit self-centered. Then, I wonder why I'm so miserable. Well Doh! Eventually, something taps me on the shoulder and holds a proverbial mirror up to me LOL. Then I realize where my thoughts are, and more importantly, where they are NOT! Sure makes for an easier Life when our thoughts ARE Jesus centered, and not me centered!

Hi Trent. The myspace blogsite is meant to challenge Christians and nonchristians to see Christ in the Light of His enormous Grace AND Truth. - both need to seek to compliment the other in Spirit-led perfection. THANK GOD for the Blood and the perfected spirit; THANK GOD for the Refiner's Fire and the *becoming* of the soul in ALIGHNMENT with HIM by choices, The Spirit and The Word.
blessings and Shalom.

And so comes the consummation, and it shall come quickly...behold, the Day is it hand. So then, beloved, who call of themselves by My own name, run and speak to the desolate. Run and raise your voices, blow the trumpet and the alarm of war! Speak to the poor in spirit and the destitute of Truth. Speak, My children...arise and speak! Listen to the watchmen, and give heed and so do. Follow Me, and obey all I have taught you, beloved, and keep My commandments and those written in stone by the Fathers own anger. Yea, keep them, even to the writing of them on your own hearts, says the Lord, your Redeemer. You are bought for a price...now follow Me. And take the hands of all who will, and bring them with you.
