Whatever gets your focus, gets you.

A Key to a victorious life is found in Psalms 27 starting in verse 4:
" ... this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.
For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;"

Our mind can only focus on one thing at a time.

Where should we fix our gaze to find safety?
Gazing at the enemy?
To focus on satan will keep you safe in times of trouble?
What about problems?
Can you focus on trouble to find deliverance?
Do we gaze at the calamity?
Should we focus on ourselves, or our family, or friends?

The nice thing about this passage is how it goes along with Isaiah 26 starting with verse 3:
" You will keep in perfect peace
him whose mind is steadfast,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal."

There is no peace and safety as we focus on anything other then our Lord. And no matter what comes against us, we have this moment to turn to Him and find peace and safety.

Overlapping handsImagine that you have the word "trouble" written on one hand, and the Lord Jesus written on the other.
Putting your hands in front of your face with the troubles on top, will let you see only the trouble and not the Lord.
Putting your hands in front of your face with the Lord on top, and you can see Him. The troubles will still be there but they cannot overwhelm you, because of Him.

Whatever gets your focus, gets you.

That might sound like "avoiding the situation" and escapism, but I would say that it is not the easy way out. In fact, focusing and fixing our gaze on Him during trouble is one of the hardest tests that we go through, and nothing is easy about having the steadfastness to trust on Him in the times when our enemies are in our face. However, we have a promise ... He will keep us in perfect peace whose mind is set on Him. Isaiah 26:3

Focusing on the Lord is all-important ... and a life characterized by a gaze set on Him / focusing on Him will be a life of peace, freedom and victory.

Yet I say to you, forgive him and love him. Honor your father despite his iniquities and wrongdoings. For the Son has taken his punishment and forgiven him, if he so chooses to receive it. Therefore, as I have forgiven you in the blood of My most beloved Son, also must you forgive those who have sinned against you. ~ God [Letters from God and His Christ - Volume 1 - See With the Eyes of Christ]
