Jesus, Deny ME?...What's Up with That?

Budz Buzz

Will Jesus ever deny us? Well, yes and no. Yes. if we reject Him as Savior by having no faith in Him to save. No, if we accept Him as Savior by faith.

A misunderstanding of 2 Timothy 2:11-15 is usually at the root. And usually it's due to a lack of confidence in God's forgiveness. And it's this doubt about being forgiven which puts the idea in our heads that God is poised to punish us - severely:" There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love..." (1 John 4:18 NIV).

Let's visit 2 Timothy 2:11-15, remember how Jesus loved us, gave Himself for us, & was made sin for us, remember eternal means forever without end and trust the Spirit to reason with us:

“This is a faithful saying:

For if we died with Him,
We shall also live with Him.
If we endure,
We shall also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.

If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
He cannot deny Himself.”

Bud,
Excellent study. I liked how 1 John 2:22-23 connected the "denial" with being unregenerate ... which is the linch-pin to the whole understanding of
2 Timothy 2:11-15.

It is that He does not force himself upon people that are not willing to have Him. There are no people drug kicking and screaming into the Kingdom. There is always the element of our willingness (which I believe is a gift not a merit.)

Brent, who also contributes here, links the notion of those that have life as being "known" by God ... He "knows" Himself in them. Even in the procreative sense of the word "know." For judgement is a separation of those that God "knows" and those that are told to depart for He never "knew" them. It is as they have denied Him, that He denies them. However, if they would have been willing, then He could not deny them for He "knows" them ... and it would be denying even Himself as He is in them by the Spirit. (He cannot disown Himself - 2 Timothy 2:13)

Ripening still,
Trent

encouraging thoughts here, Bud and Trent. I find it very comforting to know that Christ loves me because He loves me, not because of my own merit...
blessings!
